In 2020, after seeing a viral TikTok trend that encouraged women to save videos with fake conversations to use when feeling uncomfortable, high school junior Harish Kolli became inspired to create an app dedicated to keeping women safe by dissuading potential harassers.

Recognizing that the videos’ popularity was driven by their preventative and discrete nature,  Kolli created an app with similar key features. The personal-safety app, called Guardial, allows users to trigger incoming phone call simulations that have a caller ID display screen, ringtone, and audio with dialogues such as “I’ll see you soon” and “I have your location”.
